Step into the world of traditional Kyoto craftsmanship at Hiyoshiya, the last remaining Wagasa (Japanese umbrella) workshop in the city. Founded in the Edo period, Hiyoshiya has preserved the beauty and techniques of handmade wagasa for generations. In this unique cultural experience, you will discover the artistry behind wagasa and create your own miniature piece to take home.
Available Courses
1. Mini Wagasa Making Experience (90 min)
Price: ¥10,560 / person (incl. tax)
Learn how to make a mini wagasa (approx. 30cm in diameter) under the guidance of expert artisans.
Includes a guided tour of the workshop.
Each participant takes home their finished mini wagasa.
Max. 20 participants per session.
2. Mini Wagasa Collage Experience (60 min)
Price: ¥5,940 / person (incl. tax)
Decorate a pre-made mini wagasa using Japanese paper and materials.
A fun, hands-on activity suitable for children as well.
Each participant takes home their decorated wagasa.
Available for groups of 3 or more, up to 20 participants.
3. Workshop Tour (30 min)
Price: ¥5,280 / group (1–8 people, incl. tax)
Guided tour of Hiyoshiya’s workshop.
Learn about the history and techniques of wagasa making.
